Mark Miehe

CFP®, CLU, CHFC – Advisor/President

I’m Mark Miehe President of Midwest Financial group. I grew up on a dairy farm in southwestern Wisconsin where I learned about hard work and being committed to doing things right. I graduated with Honors from the University of Wisconsin, where I competed on the University’s track and cross country teams.

I’ve worked in the financial services industry for over two decades and formed Midwest Financial Group, Inc., an independent financial planning firm in 1997. Now, along with Krisann, my wife, we operate offices in Madison and Janesville. During the years we have been in the Financial Services industry, we’ve found that people are looking for a trustworthy source for information and guidance. As an independent firm, we have always been able to objectively analyze one’s situation and provide sound recommendations. We want to know “what’s most important to you” and then help you align your financial resources with your personal values and goals. We know we’ve succeeded when our clients tell us we’ve truly helped them improve the quality of their lives.

Nearly every free moment I spend with Krisann. We enjoy traveling, biking, attending UW sporting events together and I still run to stay fit. The biggest joy in our lives however is our family. Our son Scott is a pilot and his wife Lacey is a vet-tech. They and our granddaughters Peyton and Sawyer live in Mason City, IA.  Our daughter Leslie has a successful career in the Twin Cities area and lives in Elk River, MN.

We value the ability to recognize and be thankful for life’s many blessings. That is one of the keys to a happy and healthy life.

Matt Cuplin

CFP® – Advisor/Vice-President

As advisors, I feel it is important to remember every day why we do what we do. My passion to work with individuals and families is deeply rooted in my own life experiences. I lost my mother to a decade long battle with cancer in the Spring of 2008 when she was only 52 years old. It was at that point I truly began to realize the importance of planning for your future and protecting your loved ones. Today that loss serves as a source of motivation for me as I work with others.

I sincerely enjoy teaching and helping others understand their financial world by explaining it in terms they understand. By working together, we can help take away the stress associated with investing and finances by implementing a plan that is measurable, achievable, and laid out in a logical order – a plan that allows you to sleep well at night. By taking these worries away, you can focus on the things in your life that are truly important.

Born and raised in Freeport, IL, I’m a proud graduate of Western Illinois University’s school of Business and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Master’s in Sports Business. I’ve continued to expand my education and expertise since entertaining the industry, obtaining my CFP license in 2015. Also, I am a proud recipient of my industry’s “4 under 40” award, given by NAIFA in the Spring of 2016. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, exercising and running, and trying to catch as many sporting events and concerts as I can all across the Midwest!  My wife Lauren and I live in Madison with our two daughters Alyssa, and Hannah, as well as ‘Addy’ our loveable Jack Russell Terrier.

Krisann Miehe

Advisor/Partner

I grew up in Janesville, WI and was born into the insurance and securities business. My father, James Shaw, was a nationally recognized financial professional. He trained me and taught me the value of always putting my client’s needs first. I have been working in the industry for over 20 years and have loved it since the beginning. I’ve maintained the registration and educational requirements that allow me to stay up to date on the most advanced retirement planning options for my clients. I hold the Securities Principal registration and have received Top of the Table recognition for superior performance from MDRT, one of the nation’s most respected financial services organizations.

I believe my strength is helping people save for retirement. Once retired, I help them decide how to spend so they won’t run out of money. They are able to retain resources to pass on to their heirs in the future. That means looking at all the pitfalls that can mess up a perfect retirement (things like: poor market returns, inflation, taxes, poor health, rising health care costs). I feel very fortunate to have at my disposal high quality product solutions to address all my client’s concerns. We are not limited by any proprietary companies. I also have access to other financial professionals whose knowledge we can call upon when necessary. One of those financial professionals is my husband, Mark Miehe. Working together building our practices has made this career complete. We currently have 3 offices and a dedicated hard working staff to serve you. Each person brings a special touch to each client relationship.

Mark and I have a son, Scott who is married to Lacey. They are parents to our grandchildren, Peyton and Sawyer Rose. Scott is a pilot flying out of Mason City, IA and Lacey is a vet tech for a local veterinary clinic. Our daughter Leslie lives and works in the Minneapolis area. Just like our clients, family comes first in our life and we are very fortunate our immediate family is happy and healthy.

Scott Wieland

Benefits Specialist

I grew up in Carroll, Iowa (I have heard all the jokes about Iowa :).  I graduated with honors from Loras College in Dubuque where I participated in football and was very active in theatre along with coaching three sports at a local junior high.

I have spent the last 22 years working in the Employee Benefits field. After the first four years working for a third party administrator for self-funded clients in Dubuque, I moved to Madison in 1999 to work in sales for a local HMO.  Since 2001, I have been working as an employee benefit specialist in the Madison area.  My clients will tell you that my passion for helping them is what separates me from other benefit agents.  I love my job and that is reflected in the energy I bring.  I believe I fight harder for every dollar of my clients’ money than anyone else.

I have been to over 35 seminars on Healthcare Reform so I am able to help employers and individuals navigate the variety of options.  The choices have become increasing confusing and seem to change every week.  We work very hard to stay on top of the changes and proactively educate clients.

My clients range from 2 employees to over 100.  I have worked with clients over 1,000 employees but find that many employers with less than 50 employees are often not provided the appropriate attention they deserve by the “big” agencies.  I believe they deserve the same education and attention that employers over 50 get, so the 2-50 employee companies have become a focus for me. My clients also have the availability to some awesome Human Resource tools and live help that many smaller businesses do not currently get from their agent, but find extremely valuable.

I also have helped over 250 people secure individual health insurance since Healthcare Reform took place, and can work with individuals in or out of the Exchange marketplace.

In my spare time, I enjoy all sorts of sports (both watching and playing).  I also run regularly and have completed four runs of 20 miles or longer.  I have been around theatre all my life and have acted in over 20 shows.  And, never met a karaoke machine I didn’t like!

Brandon Masbruch

Advisor

I was raised in Darlington, the son of nurse and carpenter.  I learned at an early age the value of hard work and putting others first.  I spent several years working in ambulances and emergency rooms as well as on a shock trauma team for the US Army.  Following completion of my Business degree, I worked in the insurance industry prior to joining Midwest Financial Group.

I have always prided myself on putting the needs and goals of the patients and clients that I have worked with first.  Flexibility and recognition of your needs allow me to ensure that I always put your interests first, and will allow our interactions to take place on your terms.  We have gone through a time in this country that has made people aware of the need to plan for the future, while still taking care of the needs of today.  Together we will build a plan that helps to take care of your todays and prepares for your tomorrows.

My free time is spent split between serving as the Director of EMS for the Belmont Ambulance Service, Training Officer of the Belmont Fire Department, and with my family.  My wife Shelly and I are blessed with three girls, Julia, Brynn, and Saige, who keep us on our toes at all times.

Anthony (Tony) Pochowski

Advisor

I was born and raised in the Milwaukee area by two loving parents. The youngest of three, with two sisters, I graduated from Milwaukee Hamilton High School in 2001.  After experiencing my parents having struggles with their Financial Advisor I knew I wanted to be in the financial services industry. Why? To make sure that everyone gets the attention and personal service they deserve.

I’ve worked in the financial services field for ten years and am thrilled to be connected with a firm that shares my values and goals. Everyone’s economic and life situation is unique and I keep that in mind when providing personal financial advice.  Personalized service is essential when matching your needs and goals to the best financial solution.  I remain dedicated to learning your goals so together we can build a financial plan focused on your needs. Once your customized plan is in place, we will continue to work together to review any achievements or changes and ensure you are comfortable that everything is moving forward according to plan.

In my spare time I enjoy volunteering with the Rotary Club and the Blue Zones Project.  My family is most important to me and I spend as much time as possible with my wife Nicole and our sons.

Kane Schrader

Intern

My name is Kane Schrader and I am currently the summer intern here at Midwest Financial Group. I went to high school in Nekoosa, Wisconsin, where I was a member of the National Honor Society and competed in track and cross country. From Nekoosa, I moved to La Crosse, where I am currently a student at UW – La Crosse. I will be graduating this December with a major in finance and a minor in economics.

In the past, I have done two other classroom based financial advising internships with the companies Mutual of Omaha and Modern Woodmen. Although I haven’t been with Midwest Financial Group for a long time, my experience interning here has been great. I have been able to learn a lot this summer through being exposed to many aspects of our operations. Everyone in the office, from our administrative personnel to our advisors, put the clients’ needs first. After graduation, I aspire to become a financial advisor. Seeing the positive and meaningful work that our advisors do has only further convinced me of this.

In my free time, I enjoy being with my family and friends, staying active through running and biking, reading, and doing various activities in the community. Although going back home to Nekoosa will always be meaningful to me, I have truly enjoyed my time here in Madison.
